The thickness of the meat, the vegetables, the grilling and the sauce—I won’t compromise on these four.

Why the name “Chibe (집에)”

I wanted a place where everyone comes back and hears “welcome home”

Chibe Mama

“Chibe (집에)” means “home” in Korean, as in “coming home”. I wanted a place where everyone comes back and hears “welcome home”, and a name that is easy to say and remember. There was never another candidate.

I had nowhere to work, so I opened this restaurant thinking it was my last chance. My first customers were neighbours. Thanks to them, it has now been more than 10 years.

I learned the cooking at a Korean restaurant where I worked part-time. The pork, the vegetables and the kimchi all come from shops in Tsuruhashi and Osaka’s Koreatown that suit my own taste. I’m always out on foot looking for fresh, good-value ingredients.

Some customers call this their second home. A Korean customer who used to live in Kayashima still says “Kayashima is my second hometown” and drops in every time they visit Japan. Solo diners, couples, Korean guests—all sorts of people come here.

If you like K-pop, just say so. I’ll put it on.

A word from Chibe Mama

Nice to meet you. I’m an Osaka auntie who loves Korea.

For samgyeopsal, it’s the thickness of the meat, the vegetables, how it’s grilled, and the sauce. I won’t compromise on those. I’ve eaten it elsewhere, but I still think ours is the best.

There are no rules for how to eat. Eat it the way you like—that’s when it tastes best.

It can feel hard to walk in the first time, but I’m waiting for you. After a long day at work, come and spend a happy hour or two here.

Frequently asked questions

Coming alone is fine

Do I need a reservation?

If there’s a free seat, you can walk in. Reservations are by phone (072-888-3442), in Japanese only. It’s a one-person operation, so a call ahead really helps. On Mondays, our regular closing day, we sometimes open for reservations.

Are there reservation-only dishes?

Yes. Yangnyeom gejang needs about 1 week’s notice and samgyetang about 3 days, by phone. Both are only for guests who booked. Jokbal depends on supply, so mention it when you book; some days we can serve it on the spot. Other dishes can be discussed too. Please ask early for anything that needs special ingredients.

Can I come on my own?

Of course. There are 6–7 counter seats and table seats. Many guests come alone.

What languages are spoken?

Japanese. In person, Mama speaks just a little Korean. We don’t speak English, and phone calls are in Japanese only. To order, just point at the menu—that works fine.

Can a large group come?

If we combine the counter and the tables into one big table, we can seat 10–15 people. Private hire is possible too. For groups, please call ahead with the number of people and the date and time.

Can we book the whole place?

Yes. With the counter and tables combined into one big table, we can take up to 10–15 people. Please call to discuss the date, time and number of people.

Is there a step at the entrance?

No step at the entrance. There are counter and table seats, so tell us by phone if you have a preference.

How can I pay?

Cash only. A small starter (otoshi) is served and charged; the price depends on the dish. There is no seat charge.

Can I take food away?

For anything other than raw dishes, ask us. Tell us what you’d like.

I can’t eat certain ingredients. Can you help?

If you let us know in advance, we’ll do what we can. Please call before you come.

Is there parking?

There is a pay-by-the-hour car park behind the restaurant.

Anything else? Just call us (072-888-3442). Japanese only on the phone.
